This was SO good. I'm going to have to listen to it again. I just wanted to hear so much more from Loretta so I hope you'll have her back again!
If I were able to ask a question of Loretta I would ask this: how do you balance the line of seeking humanity in hard places? Or, where is that line between those who you feel are irredeemable, and those whose choices are simply centred around their trauma, or their circumstances, but who otherwise are capable of change/taking accountability? I understand completely what you mean about calling out power unflinchingly - the Trump administration doesn't need our gentleness. But when and where do we apply our gentle approach? I'm so curious about Loretta's work with white supremacists and how one might approach a group like that with anything other than total disregard for their humanity. I will look for her book! Thank you!
P.s. Zawn I'm so moved by your 8-year-old's comment in the bookstore - I'm taking that wisdom with me!
Awww thank you! The part I left out is that after that comment, I chatted up the cashier more, and she actually told me she had had a really terrible day. We ended up having a moment of connection that would not have happened were it not for my eight year old. If I could bring Loretta back every week I would <3
Listening to Loretta was exactly what I needed at the stage I’m at. I’ve been looking for someone with lived experience and wisdom to share on how to navigate one’s own activism within a very diverse community. Best podcast so far where I rewound incessantly to have the ideas sink in.

This is so lovely ❤️
She also wants me to clarify that she's nine now 🤣
Awwww…adorable!
Dinner was late because I started taking notes!! I will absolutely be listening again too to internalize this wisdom.
