J.D. Vance has spent much of his career insulting “childless cat ladies” and speculating that postmenopausal women have no purpose other than grandmotherhood.

American Republicans are actively working to make single motherhood more expensive, and Project 2025 argues that the only valid family is a nuclear one.

So what’s behind this hatred of single mothers?
