Monthly subscriber chat: Experiences with men in feminism
A monthly chat where you can share anything that's on your mind
Welcome to this month’s Subscriber Chat! My monthly subscriber chat is unique because it’s the only time I allow comments from non-paid subscribers. And these comments won’t show up in your social media feeds, which means you can safely say whatever you want without your husband, mother-in-law, or boss seeing it. Feel free to comment anonymously.
This is the space to discuss whatever is on your mind, to ask for advice from the community, and to ask me anything. It’s also a great place to share anything you’d like me to write about over the next few weeks!
Every month, I ask a starter question to get discussion going. But you don’t have to answer it! You can talk about anything at all that’s on your mind!
I have two topics to discuss this month—in addition, of course, to anything else that is on your mind. But before we get started, a few helpful reminders:
Liberating Motherhood is on Patreon. You can sign up there, and if you’re already a subscriber here, your signup will help fund scholarships. To request a scholarship, email zawn@zawn.net with Substack scholarship in the subject line of your email. Your email MUST clearly and explicitly state that you cannot afford to pay the monthly fee. I am unlikely to see emails that do not follow these rules.
Don’t forget about the Liberating Motherhood community! This is a super private, super supportive community for paid subscribers and those with scholarships. Before joining, you must sign an NDA and follow a number of other rules. You can see those here. If your membership has previously been declined, it’s because you didn’t follow the application rules; you’re welcome to reapply.
Want some feminist reading lists? Visit Liberating Motherhood on Bookshop.org
Want awesome feminist merchandise? Got you covered here.
Submit a Feminist Advice Friday question here.
Submit a vignette for the podcast here.
Finally, for the remainder of October, I am running a membership/gift special. If you purchase a new membership during this month, or purchase a gift membership for someone else, then you get free feminist merch. Just email me your mailing address: zawn@zawn.net.
If you would like to give a gift to someone in need of a scholarship, please email zawn@zawn.net.
This month, I have two discussion prompts:
Men in feminism and feminist men: What have been your experiences? I’m especially interested in comments that educate self-described feminist men about how to be better. It’s a common theme here that a man enthusiastically joins, then begins talking over women, and then pretty quickly turns aggressive.
Your favorite/most helpful posts from me: In about a month, I’ll be doing my semi-annual membership drive. During this drive, I feature the most beloved posts of the previous year. I’d love to know which posts you’ve enjoyed the most!
Feel free to share anything else that’s on your mind! And thanks for being a part of this community. Your voice matters.
The posts about the intersection of patriarchy and abuse have been the most interesting and helpful to me.
This post really sticks with me. The bits around victim blaming feeling like empowerment
